Thanks for taking time to learn a little bit more about me.
For starters, I’m passionate about transparency. This never sparks as much enthusiasm as I’d like—until I tell people I work for the company that created a little tax form now known as the 1040EZ. After people hear that, they think it’s amazing. Working there means I’ve spent nine years learning from the experts about how to transform complex documents—such as bills, statements, explanations of benefits—and websites into meaningful, clear and satisfying experiences.
Much of my work has been for banks and financial institutions (like Bank of America, American Express, Synovus) and government organizations (like the IRS, SEC and NASD—now FINRA). And it’s no wonder—whether it’s regulations, the US tax code, a bank’s complicated fee structures or convoluted rules about processing transactions, dealing with finances can be complex!
I’m also empathetic. As the child of a psychologist and a psychotherapist, listening to and understanding people has always been part of my life. Whether I’ve learned about people passively (through analytics or call center data) or more actively through research, my ability to stand in users’ shoes has always helped me advocate for them throughout the lifecycle of a project.
Finally, I’ve been known to stay up ‘til the wee hours because I can’t put a problem down. I’ve been successful at simplifying dense, seemingly impenetrable data because I love a challenge. With the user’s needs as my compass, I keep attacking a problem from different directions—each time peeling back layers of complexity and connecting the dots until information is in a new format that can easily be understood.
